SECOND GENERATION
A soldier comes home from Europe to a different world when he left after two atomic bombs finally end World War II in the pacific.

ANNA and MARK are having a conversation after dinner.
ANNA
Things were not the same around here during the war. Had to deal with food rations, building planes at the plant, buying war bonds and curfews. Everyone pitched in for the war effort. I did drive a cab and worked at the plant building planes.
MARK
Two jobs?
ANNA
Yeah, I have enough saved to go back to college to finish my degree.
MARK
That’s good. How were the other groups like the Chinese, Koreans, Filipinos and Indians doing in Chinatown?
ANNA
Everyone was holding steady. Some worked in the aircraft plants. Others joined the service and some stayed. They had to put signs on the front of the stores that everyone was welcome to go shopping in their establishments but no Japanese businesses.
MARK
Of course, there where no Japanese to be seen.
ANNA
Maybe it was for your own safety. There are some that may have intentions of harm.
MARK
Moving everyone to a remote area in a desert? Being treated like a prisoner? That’s not safe, that’s degrading to being less than a US citizen!
ANNA is startled.
ANNA
Boy, you’re livelier than before. What happened to the quiet Mark the last time I saw you?
MECHANISM
A bioengineer/neurologist, works at a research university. She developed a mechanism that is able to transport the signatures of the brain waves to the further reaches of planetary space.

LUCAS
Hence, this device is able to accomplish this?
ZOE
Yes, I tapped into the VLA, Very Large Array radio telescopes in New Mexico.
ZOE looks at the mechanism.
ZOE
(CONT'D)
It can transport the waves over to the telescopes. (Giggles) Tie in with the transponder with the coded wi-fi.
ZOE turns the laptop around for LUCAS to see the screen.
ZOE
(CONT'D)
Here is the table that shows the freqs for the default continuum applications. (Points to the freq) This six centimeters, four to eight range one is compatible with the waves.
STRAWBERRIES
The time is 1942 and the place is Bainbridge Island. The son of a strawberry and fruit farmer is the last family member to leave the island to be incarcerated for his ethnic background.

ROGER
They should be ready to pick soon.
LEM walks up to ROGER.
LEM
Yep. Able to take care of picking them?
ROGER
No problem. We will get it done.
LEM
Not the best time to leave with all these strawberries ready for the market.
ROGER
Christine can managed it and I will help with getting all of the crops ready. Everything should be fine.
LEM
Thanks, Roger. Seems the Japanese population isn’t too keen in leaving. Just have to deal with it the best we can.
ROGER
Not to worry. It will be here when everyone gets back. This is probrably a mix up with the government and you’ll be back in a couple of months.
LEM
Hope you’re right. I have my doubts.
ROGER
Say, always good to see the positive side in these situations.
OUT OF THE PAST
A Los Angeles detective finds herself in a waiting room which she has no recollection on how she arrived there.
" Remember the past and it will become your future."

AMANDA is restless.
AMANDA
So, I have to get back to work. Trying to solve a case at the harbor. Counterfeit merchandise. Big business.
SERAPH
Yes, it is.
AMANDA
(Restless) Enough of doing the same thing over and over again. Playing the piano, watching them duel outside. I have to go now.
SERAPH
That will be most difficult at this time. You see, this is the waiting room.
AMANDA
For what? I’m not waiting for anyone.
SERAPH
Well, you are the one that is waiting.
AMANDA
Waiting? Look, I’ve been here for (Thinks) I don’t know how long but it’s time to leave.
SERAPH
In good time.
SERAPH walks away.
